Feed in Tariff Program

Feed in Tarriff Program

A Feed-In Tariff (FIT) program is designed to encourage the development of renewable energy supply by guaranteeing long term power purchase agreements which give certainty to system developers and financial backers to the systems Return On Investment.

Although new to Canada, FIT programs have been highly successful in other countries like Germany and Spain. The Feed-In Tariff policy approach has now come to Ontario – the first jurisdiction in North America to adopt this approach to developing a domestic solar industry. With the passing of the Green Energy Act, Ontario will become a leading solar power market:

  • The 20 year guaranteed power purchase rates provides an attractive pricing level that ensures the viability of the industry and compares favorably to subsidized rates in other countries.
  • The combination of Ontario power purchase rates and Federal tax incentives will ensure the financial success of the power systems, returning greater than 10% on your investment for 20 years.

The FIT program, managed by the Ontario Power Authority allows building owners to have a solar power system installed on their facility and receive a premium rate for every kWh (kilowatt hour) of electricity produced by the system. You are selling 100% of your green electricity to you Local Distribution Company (electricity utility) at a much higher rate than you are currently paying for electricity, ensuring a strong return on investment for system owners.

E*Gen Power systems up to 10kW will receive 80.2 cents per kWh produced, while larger rooftop E*Gen systems (between 10kW and 250kW) will receive 71.3 cents per kWh. This is fantastic news because for the first time in Canada, homes, farms and business are able to produce green, clean, reliable power on site and make a generous Return on Investment.
