Requirements of E*Gen Solar Systems: Roof and Ground
Here are the basic requirements we look for in a good location for a solar power system:
Southern Exposure
The ideal exposure for any Solar system in Canada is true south. Without sufficient exposure to the sun, the solar panels will not perform to their optimal output.
It is critical that the site is not regularly shaded by tall trees or other buildings. During our site assessment, we use sophisticated solar assessment tools to analyze solar access conditions throughout the year for each specific location. The sun moves low to the ground in the winter and high in the sky during the summer. We are able to determine ahead of time if any obstructions around your property will negatively affect the performance of the solar system before it is even installed.
Roof Condition
If your roof is in need of repair, it is far better to refurbish the roof before installing a solar system. The additional expense of removing the panels during a roof repair adds to the overall cost of the system. Our panels carry a minimum 20 year warranty so the newer the roof the better – and the solar revenue can pay part or all of the potential roof replacement during the life of the system.
Access to the Roof
Due to size restrictions, an important consideration concerning the location for a Solar system is access to the roof space. The installation location should ideally be one where we can easily move the solar array components onto the roof with a standard crane or boom truck.
Strong Roof Support
Although E*Gen Power systems are relatively light compared to standard HVAC equipment regularly found on flat roofs, it is necessary that the roof have the strength to handle an additional weight for the solar panels and related equipment. Strict structural engineering review is undertaken as a first step to any successful project.
